Waiting for Bedtime.... and a couple of practice pieces

You all know how much I like experimenting with my watercolour, so I tried a couple of different exercises, one from a magazine and one from a friend's painting.

Once these practice pieces were done, I created my own painting.
This is it:

Waiting for Bedtime

the two practice pieces are these:

As you can see, the practice pieces bear no resemblance to the painting I wished to paint. Sometimes that happens. I need to paint to get my confidence in what I want to do, going. So any painting works.
Rather than me thinking overly about what to paint for practice, I will look up "how to" paintings. I'm not overly fussed on the outcome, it's the practising which is important.
Practice is always important - and I'm sure that both my wildlife and river paintings, when I make them, will be all the better for these practice pieces.

  1. I love all three but especially the lamb. Your work is absolutelty brilliant.Thank you dear Pat for all your support! xx

  2. Have fun practising, looking good so far

  3. Wonderfull aquarels, best regard from Belgium

  4. I think this is a really cute bunch Pat! :0)

  5. I agree with you, Pat - practice ... practice ... practice ...
It's the only way we can improve. :)

  6. Dear Pat, Please have confidence! The work, all looks wonderful and heartwarming that looks like picture book illusrtation. Challening a new thing needs our confidence and examines how much we have it (*I studied such sort of it in psychology). Regarding results, take it easy. Pat, enjoy drawing and writing!!
    Best wishes, Sadami

  7. You are right, Pat! Practice! These are very sweet.

  8. I like them all. What is it they say? Practice makes perfect

  9. Pat by the looks of these three pieces I would say you do practice my friend. I love the lamb - so precious. Hope you have a great week.

  10. Well, they're all nice but they are certainly different!
I just love the little lambie!

  11. Hi Pat, practice or not, I think that the quality and beauty of your watercolors are really excellent. Hugs.

  12. Practice is so important, and these are great pieces, Pat!

  13. All very nice, my favorite is waiting for bedtime! Best.
