Lucky Bamboo and some exciting news!

There I was, with a stack of bamboo practice pieces and I thought, what shall I do with all these?
Over on Painting Friends, someone had previously painted a new painting over an old one, so parts of the old showed through.
It looked fun, so I decided to use one of the bamboo practices in the same way.

I sat and thought what might be a good fit with bamboo, then I thought, paper! That's how  I came to paint a diary over the top. Here you have it:

Lucky Bamboo

In other news - and exciting news for me- I've been asked to draw some pencil portraits as commissions! Eight in total, so I shall be rather busy. I may not have much time for other painting, though I intend to take something different  to art club each week. If I don't post so much in the run up to Christmas, you'll know why!

Avast!

To celebrate yesterday's "international talk like a Pirate" day, I took up my pencils last night and drew this!

Avast!

Chinese ink and a watercolour

After my trip to the British Museum to see the Chinese ink exhibition, you all know I was inspired to try some inks.
I've continued practising - and part of the practice was "to be at one" with the subject and to try to capture its essence.
That has taken a bit of working on. You can see from these photos how I progressed.

Then I tried capturing the essence of one of my flowers from a previous post.
This is the lisianthus.
Painted on fabriano hot press.
I'm also trying out some new papers.

Did you know I like to experiment? :)

Do you think I've captured the essence of this flower?

Incandescant

Today's painting is an abstract that was inspired by the shadows on the ceiling as we watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games !
I quickly sketched the pattern and returned to the sketch later to make this painting.

I didn't want to paint the picture in shadow colours, so instead I took the bright, cheerful and uplifting reds, oranges and yellows.

I hope you enjoy it.

You'll find this and all my painting in my gallery site HERE

The Floral Dance, Solo

Here we have a painting with one white poppy - which I proudly grew in my garden!

So this flower gets to be called:

Hope you enjoy it.

Fire and Ice

The original jewellery is by Sparkling Jewellery (website HERE)
I had asked my friend who owns it if she had a wedding ring set I could wear that wouldn't give rise to contact dermatitis ( its a right pest!)

She came up with this set which does the job perfectly - and of course, I had to paint it :)
Well, you do, don't you?

Fire and Ice.

On a side note, this is a fair representation, but I do find blue- greens the hardest thing to photograph and get the colour balance right!
Any tips gratefully received :)

Celebration!

I have a reason to celebrate!
As you know, I am a reflexologist as well as someone who paints and writes.

I recently received my copy of Reflexions, a quarterly magazine for members of the Association of Reflexologists.
Within this issue, I not only have a factual article published, but I have a painting used twice too!

This is the painting that was used:

The article is too long for me to publish here, it  took up two whole pages!

The first thing I had published, a few years back, was an article about Missy, which appears in a National Trust book about dogs, True Tales of Courage and Survival.

So to celebrate, we're having ice cream in the garden. Its the high life

Missy's Fish on Friday

Missy had been begging for some of our cheese scones, so I decided to make her some of her very own treats.
These are salmon fish balls, because you know, omega oils are good for you!

How long before they're ready?
There they are, ready!
What do you mean, they have to cool off?
While I wait, look at mummy's flowers!
They were a gift, you know!
Pretty, aren't they?
Now I have to say, the fish balls were as much of a hit with Missy, as the flowers were with me :)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Bill

Good morning all.
Today's painting is rather special to me.

Its a portrait of Bill, a jack russell - and he was painted for the winner of an auction, that was held to benefit South East Dog Rescue.

So the rescue benefits and Bill's owner, who has seen the portrait, has a gorgeous painting (her words!) to enjoy.

That's my good news story - hope you enjoy it too!

Bubble the Clown

Here's my latest dog portrait, Bubble the Clown

she's a fun loving, joyous dog, so I painted her to reflect this.
I hope she brings a smile to your face!
