in this stage I have added the base wash for the golden yellow centres of the flowers, which are normal daisies that you find growing at the side of the road.
And then I darkened them up a little more by adding more layers, until I got to this: -
This is the last of the practice pieces I wanted to do from North Light's Big Book of painting watercolour flowers.
Its been a brilliant book for learning new techniques and I heartily recommend it. Its out of print, so you'll have to scout around to find a second hand copy, but it'll be worth it.
So, on to the painting - here's stage one with the drawing and shadows in it
the finished painting - such fun to do! There was some pouring involved, some negative painting and some lifting. I will keep these techniques and you will no doubt see them popping up in my other paintings .
here's the second stage of this practice piece.. colours are poured and white spaces left.. the next post will be the painting, because the flowers, shadow and light all get painted together.
I'm back on the flower practice - after this one there is one more fairly simple one I want to do and then my summer with North Light's book is done. Hopefully the techniques I have learned will stick in my brain!
Here's the first stage - of three , so not too long to wait for the finished pic!
Recently we replaced the old sheds in the garden with a new wooden one. Supervisor over all the works was Missy, who had to come round and poke her nose in every corner until she'd sniffed everything! She does it with such a happy look on her face, that you couldn't possibly be annoyed :)
