and now, something completely different!

So glad you all enjoyed the crystal peacock.
No sooner had I finished it than I started this  fast and loose painting of a tiger.

I had learned from our Painting Like the Masters challenge on Painting Friends how to paint a Monet style oil in watercolour - and I so loved it I do not want to lose the skill. So I employed that technique again on this tiger.

I find repetition is the best way for me to retain a skill - how about you?

Painting like the Masters - Monet

On the Painting Friends forum (link on right) we have a monthly challenge - to paint like one of the masters.
For April, the masterful painter chosen was Monet.

I'm not a huge fan of Monet, but will confess I only knew his water lilies - and they aren't my cup of tea.  So I searched the gallery for his paintings and was pleasantly surprised to see the "woman with parasol" I really liked this one. Now, how to get the feel of an oil, when using watercolour.  Not easy, but I gave it my best shot - and here's the result.  Do feel free to tell me what you think - and if it could be improved any :)

two "get well" wishes

Did you know Claude Monet painted his wife Camille as she was on her deathbed?
I don't know how he could do that!
Yesterday my little terrier wasn't well and needed to see the vet - art was the last thing on my mind. Her getting well was. Get well soon, my Miss.

The second wish is for my arty friend Beryl. We go on painting workshops together. She has sadly fractured her kneecap and is immobile for a few weeks.
I have told her all about my new toy so today I am off to the art shop to buy an Inktense pencil for her, and a new sketch book too. We will not be sketching her plaster cast!
