Hubs has picked up an infection recently, so I've been playing nurse.
Yesterday though, while he was sleeping, I got to paint a little.
I painted my version of a demo given by one of our Painting Friends, Kev.
He was instructing us on how to paint ink and wash.
This is what I created
If you'd like to join Painting Friends, there's a link on the right sidebar.
If you'd like to see some of Kev's work, visit his website HERE
and while I'm doing links, could I ask you all a favour please?
Would you hop along to my other blog - where I've been playing with making a cover for my book - and tell me over there which you like best? Thank you.
That blog is HERE

In a comfy chair
The end of the financial year has come and gone, which means I am currently working on my tax returns (being self employed) .
Its a chore, but a necessary one.
I have managed to do a bit of online book shopping though - and this is what I've bought!
After completely the last painting, where I learned that feeling was just as important as technique, if not more so.... I searched for a book which would help me learn to express my feelings about what I'm painting - and this one seemed to fit the bill. So after figures, I'm sitting down to read in the most comfy chair in the house :)
Sometime in the future you may see some abstraction from me :)
Missy, of course, is not impressed by taxes or books.. you can almost hear her thinking "what shall I get up to next?"

A Home of Their Own
Anybody who knows me, knows how much I love dogs.
I am delighted whenever a rescue dog gets a chance of a new home.
I am a proud supporter of the work of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
Recently a friend fell in love with this painting and asked if she could buy it:

so I asked her if she would mind buying this book for me and we would swap..

This book tells all about Battersea's 150 year history, from its humble beginnings in Holloway, through the diabolical way society treated animals at the time of Charles Dickens - and how Dickens visit and support helped turn the tide in favour of the Home.
Its a heart warming read - and best of all, all royalties go to Battersea to help further their work on behalf of homeless dogs.

And here, for those who love her, is my own Battersea girl, Missy.

Two years safe in Battersea waiting for us, they kept her that long, trying to find her a home.
Four and a half years, safe in our love.

To see Battersea's site, read their current news and see dogs available for adoption, please click the link on the right under Favourite Sites.

Bookmarks
I recently painted a few bookmarks...
they were great fun to do - I had them laminated and these three have found homes already.
Enjoy :)

......and some days...
Some days, even with the best will in the world, I do not draw or paint.
Yesterday was one of those.
I was working until gone 1pm and then I settled down in one of the recliners to have a cup of coffee and read a book.

David Benioff's City of Thieves.
One of those novels that grips you so you have to keep reading.
I always think of books as a form of art.. the author is painting a living picture with words.
Whilst I was sitting there, feet up, Missy took the other recliner and put her paws up! Not being one for reading, she fell asleep in the warmth of the room. Lovely girl .
