Ultraviolet Quartz

Sometimes its a good idea to paint in one colour, it helps you with seeing lights and darks. This is what I did with this little painting - an 11x8 inch, all painted in Ultramarine Violet from the Winsor and Newton artists range of paints.
By the way, there's not a scrap of white in this painting :)

Glynis, I hope you notice the FeltPet of my little Spotty! She stands right here on the glass computer table, where she still brings me much pleasure.
There is a FeltPet of Missy too, but that wasn't in the right place for this painting :)

  1. Really like all the tones here Pat, especially as it is one colour of tones. As for your reflections, well all I can say is 'this makes for a great painting altogether'.

  5. Pat this is marvelous in one color. Seems me very difficult, But what you say about seeing the darks and shadows better, I do believe.

  8. Hi Pat, getting back into the comment end of blogging.
I am always intrigued by seeing paintings with one color.. I've always wanted to try something in sepia or even gray tones..
You always inspire me to try things.. hugs, and good to be back

  12. Yes, tonal values are more important than colour and once we have an understanding of those, the paintings become so much better. I often load my paintings on to a computer and convert them to black and white. I do this to be sure they work tonally too. If they work in black and white, they will work in colour :0)
