morning all !
today I'm showing you some of my recent painted sketches.
I picked up a book that shows loose style painting and gave some of the exercises a go. The technique was from the book, the photos from Morguefile.
First is 8" x 11" and the second is a quarter sheet 15" x 11"
The surprising thing for me was just how much work is involved in these looser styles! The patience you have to have to leave them alone so you can overlay a wet on top of dry wash. Not sure if I'm cut out for that amount of patience

Beautiful sketches Pat! Yes, patience is hard work!! :)
ReplyDeleteHello Pat
ReplyDeleteThe cock and the flowers are beautiful. I like the style, and the colors are cheerful and fresh. It's a pleasure to look, like all your paintings.
Forgive me that I have not reported a lot lately. I was very busy with my family. I am trying to improve, and to write more
Thank you for the comments and kind words that you found for me in my blog.

Lovely vibrant sketches Pat! Yes you're right about looser styles taking longer. I've started to play around with using more water, more pigment, dry/wet in wet and glazes, and have had to slow down and so have been spending more time watching paint dry - or having a coffee break!
ReplyDeleteLove these Pat, especially the flowers, love how the greens fade into the background, I like the looser style!
ReplyDeleteAh, so there is a bit of impatience in you! Both are wonderful but I really like the second!
ReplyDeleteSecond try Pat. Wouldn't take the last one. I like both of them but pulled closer to the first one because of the colors. Yep nothing loose in loose paintings.
ReplyDelete.....but, according to me, the results are really nice, particularly for the sunflowers! Ciao Pat!
ReplyDeletePatience or not , you did a great job, I specially love your rooster!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend Pat!
I know what you mean Pat...I have to regularly walk away or sit on my hands! LOL. Your exercises are really good, the cockrill looks as though he is about to say something important and love the softness of your sunflowers.
ReplyDeleteThe chicken and sunflowers are beautiful painted. Beautiful bright and cheerful colours.
ReplyDeleteLovely loose rooster and flowers. I like them. I have been trying to do looser work, but sometime I ended doing the same. I also have no patience to wait.
ReplyDeleteI think you should try to be patiente, Pat, because the results I see here are gorgeous! xoxo
ReplyDeletepatience is not one of my strong points. I hate waiting for things to dry when I'm making something...lol
ReplyDeleteI like both of these but my favorite is the flowers.
Me, neither, Pat. I always have the trusty hair-dryer ready!
ReplyDeleteoh yes, Your paintings are loose and fresh..That's why I want a bigger palette. I use a large brush and it's 'picky picky' into a small well of paint. hugs, BJ
