Every now and then, I feel the need to flex my fingers with pencils - so a pencil portrait it is:
Sisterly Smile
Its not perfect, I can see a couple of improvements I could make, but they're minor and I'm reasonably happy with the overall effect :)
(a journey with watercolour and my dog)
Wow, wonderful portrait! Her smiling face is amazing! You should be very pleased with this work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy.. I'm glad you think its amazing.
ReplyDeleteAlways hyper - critical, I can see a couple of improvements. But then, I think artists are generally more critical of themselves :) I should lighten up, maybe
Very weel-made portrait! Drawing faces is very difficult (for me) but you've made a great work! Arianna :*
ReplyDeletethanks, Arianna :) xx
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. I think we all too critical of ourselves. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Renske.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why that is, the critical part? Anyway, glad you liked it :) xx
Hi, Pat,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful B&W!! So nice!! No flattering. Very good work. How could you be so tough on yourself. Let us enjoy, celebrate this work and move onʚ(ˆ◡ˆ)ɞ.
Love&Smile,Sadami
WOW.. A really lovely portrait.. I just love her expression.
ReplyDeleteIt has become very well. Portraits are very difficult.
ReplyDeleteElsbeth xx
Nose ... check, eyes ... check ... sorry two eyes .. check ... yep, all there. Seriously though Pat, what could possibly be wrong with this super portrait drawing which looks in proportion and, I'm sure, a very good likeness :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sadami.
ReplyDeleteoh I do enjoy it, I can just see a couple of minor things.. and I have always been critical of myself - but much better, recently :) xx
Thanks, Prabal xx
Thank you too, Elsbeth :) xx
What did I see to enhance, Michael? The shadow on the far cheek could be lightened a little - its a touch heavy. And the near cheek I could have softened the part where it dimples into the smile :)
I did say they were minor, and I was dithering to change or not.. and as I didn't - maybe they weren't that important at all :) xx
Beautiful work Pat. I love to see your work. And a pencil portrait is lovely. xx
ReplyDeleteLooks great Pat, I'll have to send my sis a link! I've tried this ref a couple of times and it's not that easy, with the tilt of the head. The scarf looks ab fab, I never had the patience to do the checks ;-)
ReplyDeletePat, its wonderful! Love the hair and her happy expressison!
ReplyDeleteThanks, June xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon - if you think its great, I'm happy :) xx

I think you're very good with pencils, Pat, and I know it's not easy to make portraits. Congrats! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, everyone. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteI took it to art club last night and the tutor thought it was pretty good. He said he doesn't often see me use pencils, but when I do, the result is champion :)
So, of course, I started another one, which I hope to finish soon xx
You're very talented, Pat. This work is very good. I'm always afraid to do a portrait.
ReplyDeletePat, your drawing is so well done and looks just like her. A big "thumbs Up" :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a wonderful portrait, Pat. Her expression is really nice. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThat is very very good!! I look forward to seeing the next one that you started!
ReplyDeletePat, I found it spectacular, we have to exercise all the techniques, the graphite is very good for us to view the contrast and brightness.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
