Memories on Ice

Remember the Memories of Auntie painting? The one with the steel colander and how I changed it to have some shadows?

Both Judy and Prabal suggested I could have some looser, more reflective shadows and my comment was that wouldn't suit the painting.
So then, I thought, lets paint those looser, reflective shadows  - and make a painting they will suit.

So, for Judy and Prabal, here are those reflections you wanted to see - hope you enjoy them!

Memories on Ice

  1. Hi Pat! Interesting to see this one, it has a totally different feel to it. I have to say I like it, but I like the other one too. And what is more important: what do you think?

  2. Glad that you like it, Judy, it was your comment - and Prabal's - that inspired me to do it.

I like this one, but also the other too. For different reasons. The reflections in this one - they are the star. In the other, more the colander. Very hard to compare the two as the style is so different. But I like them both :) xx

  3. I can't say which one I prefer, Pat. However, this is a looser style for you and the reflections are beautifully done. They are both truly lovely pieces in their own right :)

  4. I can't choose either, Michael :)
Glad you like this style, it is loose - but sometimes I do paint loose! xx

  5. Pat, I am in love with the background and the reflections in this one, so soft and floaty, kind of dreamy.....it is lovely.

  7. Hi Pat, personally I prefer this one, to me there is more movement in the background with a looser style in general. I like it! Ciao!!

  8. Good for you Tito! :)
I really expected everyone to have a favourite of the two - only me as the creator to love them both. Judy and Michael both took me by surprise in liking both!
    Hugs to you xx

  10. This is just fabulous! What a tricky subject too - but you have managed to make that colander look like real metal and I love those reflections!
Your art is really moving forward fast Pat! :0)

  12. Pat, I am looking at both versions of your painting in front of me now. Your new version is much more a suggestion of items brought about by the mingling washes of the background and reflections on the table surface. The carrot is definitely sitting on a surface, whereas in the first painting, it appears to be floating on a background where the horizon of the table is too high for the plane of the colonder (remember this in your painting of the dog (looking down on) had the same problem). The beauty of your colonder has been lost in the new version, and all items are less distinct.
While the new painting has plenty of atmosphere to it, I still prefer your original work, despite the table being quite flat and without form.

  13. Pat, I really love the style you have created for the background, and how you painted the reflections. It makes me smile to look at it, and THAT is always a good sign! :)

  14. Thanks, Christiane, I'm pleased to read you think its absolutely beautiful. xx

Thanks Sandra, glad you love the colander and reflections. xx

Thank you, Jane. Happy you think both are beautiful xx

Frank, guess the way I paint and how you see is diametrically opposed. To me, the backgrounds are not problems, just different devices. Neither do I think beauty has been lost in this painting. They say art is subjective and I guess they're right. xx

Thanks Kathryn, so glad you like my style. I'm glad it made you smile too. xx

  24. Maybe it's the looser style, maybe it's just that it's darn good, whatever it is I like it . BJ

  25. You know, of the two paintings, I think I like this one best. I just love the way the background colours seem to key in with the other elements, and also you've brought out the character of the medium - enough structure, but the watercolour used in quite a loose way. Great stuff!

  26. Thanks, Conchi. Pleased you like them both *hugs* xx

Thank you, BJ - I'm happy with "darn good" :) xx

Thanks, Sandie - the more I look at this, the more I love it! Keying the elements together does help make it cohesive and the looseness, glad you appreciate it :) xx
