Paint and play, stretch and learn!

I showed my husband the jam tarts when he returned from work yesterday and he said, "hmm. ok. not up to your usual standard. Have you posted that?"

To which the answer was yes, as you know. This is a journey after all.
You will see a variation of works from me - I am no longer plugged in to the "must create a masterpiece each time"

That's a good thing that came out of my C&G Creative Watercolour course. The fact we learned to take paint and play with it and by doing so we stretched our imaginations and we learned.

Sometimes you learn things that you love and adopt, sometimes you learn that certain styles are to be admired, but they're not for you to paint.

So for me, every time I pick up a brush, learning is my main object. Masterpieces, when they happen, are a delightful outcome :)

Here's another I painted yesterday, dedicated to a friend Wyna, who is on this painting journey too - and happy to go her own way, as I am :)
Watercolour and aquapasto medium, Arches 140 Rough, 11" x 8"

Wild as Wyna

  3. Lovely Pat, such strong and beautiful color in this sunflower painting. I am finding in my painting that is when I learn the most, when I go beyond the comfort zone, sometimes it is not always pretty! Thanks for sharing all on your journey, you are an amazing artist.

  5. Pat that is so beautiful. I love sunflowers. They just seem to brighten up the day when you see them. Our neighbor grew some along our fence this year and he is suppose to give me some seeds from them. So next year I will have some.

  6. I used to post every single thing I did, good, bad or awful! Now I'm beginning to be more selective, after all I am sure Gordon Ramsay wouldn't plate up a recipe that had gone wrong. That said, I did it for a long time and it is only now that I am posting only the things I am happy with. But, I always enjoy it when people share a variety of work that they are both happy and unhappy with because we van all learn from them I'm sorry I missed the jam tarts though! :0)

  11. I understand where you're coming from, Sandra - and if this was my gourmet restaurant, I might do the same as far as selection goes.
My gourmet restaurant for paintings is my painting site at www.patelliottpaintings.co.uk
I don't post experiments there unless I consider them good enough!

Here is my journey though, hence everything, experiments, dog, house and life get posted.

Scroll down for jam tarts - and enjoy. The shadows are divine! (she said, modestly) xx

  16. This is a gorgeous sunflower and a very inspirational post. I like your philosophy that the experience of painting is sometimes more important than the final product. And I do love the jam tarts, the shadows are so well done!

  19. Modestly, I share your words. I think that's the way, not subject to an idea, or think beforehand that we paint everything that is going to be a masterpiece. In this watercolor I admire the freedom of which you speak and you've painted this sunflower so special. Wonderful!

jam tarts @ Paintings which we absolutely must paint, and which are not as good then as we have imagined, we always have. But we had the pleasure and the satisfaction of doing it

Liking a painting is very individual and subjective!

  26. I'm with you Pat, it's all about the journey. I think sometimes I go too far in posting pieces that haven't worked out as I'd intended but if it's something I attempted then it has a place on my blog.

    Love the Sunflower. ;-)

  29. Visiting (and now following) from Dion. I love the style of this sunflower - sharp and focused fading to a delightful blend of blurry colors. It captures the season so well. I look forward to sharing the journey.
