Just sketching

A friend asked me recently if I could draw.
That's not as daft a question as it first sounds, because with some paintings you barely do any drawing.

So I decided to do some drawing..

First you get my coffee cup.. well, mug - as I usually only have one coffee a day, the breakfast one is a big one!
This sketch took about ten minutes to do.

then, a quick sketch - sitting out in the summerhouse, doors wide open,  the sun shining on us - and Missy keeping guard lest a bug try to enter our little piece of Heaven. Sketch done in under 2 minutes - because live subjects move :)

Its been such a busy weekend in the garden, pruning and clearing up from winter. So I do apologise if I haven't visited your blog - I really do try to keep up with each of the three hundred I follow - but it is getting harder.
I must learn to read faster and type quicker!

  1. Hello, Pat! Drawing sketches is very good exercise for each artist, regardless of the experience, knowledge and skills. I love drawing! :)

Oh, I think I really understand the problem with commenting all favorites blogs. So many urgent things to do: gardening, painting, working, family and social life, walking with my dog 'Tunia'... And so many interesting blogs to visit! The day is to short, definitely.
Best wishes, to you, Pat. :)

  3. They are great drawings! Especially the moving subject, very good!
It's true, drawing and painting are two different things. I was thinking about doing some more sketching myself.

  4. Pat - You can draw! I have also heard many times that there are plenty of painters that can not draw. In my opinion it's the main foundation and the best part!
I love looking at sketches and I actually prefer doing them to finished pieces. I have made up my mind to post more of them :0)

  7. I am sure that live subject doesn't sit still very long. And I never worry if you don't leave a comment. You are always so good about it but if you are following 300---OH MY!! I keep mine purged. I feel bad about it but if I don't I'd never get a thing accomplished.

  10. Dear Pat, i think you have the same "problem" as a lot of us: It is Spring, and we want to go in the garden and fix, clean , nip here and there and it keeps us away from the computer! We just have to somehow reorganize our schedule...:-) That said...you CAN draw, excellent sketching!

  12. The best sketches are those made in the real life, they will convey us such beautiful memories when we see them after some time! You are very good at drawing, Pat, and above all good at drawing fast, that is so difficult! A big hug!

  13. Cristina, you have seen into my soul! The very reason of beautiful memories is why I wrote next to the drawing of Missy, where we were and when . hugs to you xx

  17. Thanks Anamaria!
I must say its much easier to draw Missy from a photo :) Though this sketch has a certain life to it that maybe a photo wouldn't.
