The Alphabet Paintings: M

So, I've reached M in the alphabet..

and there could only be one painting, or I'd never be forgiven :)
I tried to paint her in a more painterly, softer approach and whilst I'm satisfied, I'd still be pleased to hear your opinions and critiques.

M is for Missy

She'll also be added to my painting website HERE
Enjoy browsing :)

  5. Pat, I once said you should paint with the right brain. Not quite so. Sorry, I should have said that your painting could be looser, like this one! Congratulations, this is a very expressive portrait! Missy deserves it, she is a sweetheart. xx

  6. Anamaria, you did a great job before of explaining yourself, especially as English isn't your first language. So no need to apologise.

It was doing the realistic abstract that made me realise I could adapt parts of it to make an expressive portrait.
I'm glad you love it too :) xx

  7. Pat, this is perfect, you did such a nice job with suggesting the hair pattern, without painting every hair, (which I so often get lured into!), you captured such great expression.

  8. Thanks, Maria. Its taken me a long time to not get sucked in too :)
I'm glad I've finally got there - and very glad you love her portrait too :) xx

  9. Hi, Pat&Missy,
Ah~~~~~!!!!! So, cute!!Her eyes and face expression are well done. Technically, dogs were not easy unless I handled fur in a loose style as once I had dogs and sketched them. Be kind to yourself.
Please give Missy special "Pat," "Pat."
    Cheers&Hugs, Sadami

  10. Thanks, Sadami - glad you think she's well done :)
I'm usually critical of my own work, because I want to improve. Not in a beat-myself-up way, but more a could-do-better way :)

Which dogs did you have? xx

It was painted at art club last night and when I took it out of my bag, Missy had to sniff it - and the edge of the paper got a lick

  20. But it is clear that M was reserved for our beloved Missy.
I loved Pat, worked very well managing the volume of white hairs.

  23. Hebiera sido imperdanable que estando en la M ,no pintaras a esa preciosidad que tienes por mascota.
Para mí es perfecta la sensación que das a la pintura.
    Además se parece muchísimo.

  32. How frustrating when you can't leave comments! hope this one works Pat.
A beautiful painting of Missy. She looks such an adorable little dog. My Corey is 10 now and seems to be getting more affectionate with old age!
    Hugs June xx

  36. But of course Missy would be your subject for M, and a lovely subject she is too. The painting is wonderful.

  37. Love the painterly style you used- she looks great!

  38. I agree with the previous comments, I like the looser painting - there is enough information for the viewer to know that there is fur, without having to put in every detail. But the best thing about this painting is the character that you have captured - it's not just any dog, it's Missy !
