This last week, I haven't really picked up any brushes.
My heart hasn't been in it.
But now I have started a new painting and will be blogging about it next week.
Not doing anything creative for the week made me wonder about creativity.
I had put a lot into the painting On Eagle's Wings and it was linked to a bereavement, so after it was finished I needed a break - and art was put on the back burner.
It was surprising how quickly my painting time was filled with other things.
Chores seemed to spring from the woodwork!
But, I love painting too much to be away from it for long - how about you?
Does anything stop you creating?

I hope the 'mini' vacation was good for you. Sometimes it's nice to clean. I do alot of thinking then.
ReplyDeleteHaving a little baby boy sure stopped my creating time. I've yet to find time to get it back...and I might not for a while :)

ReplyDeleteI can well imagine that looking after a new baby boy would stop your creative time. I know my friend when she had her first in her 40s couldn't believe the work or the tiredness that came along with the bundle of joy!
You know how I get sidetracked by everything going on around me, and my resistance battles. I needed to do nothing for a while and it seemed to clear my head, like a vacation!

ReplyDeleteIn my day job, I take regular breaks away, because an older, very wise friend once told me that as much as you think you can go on forever, the quality of work diminishes unless you take time out.
My art is my time out from the day job and as such its unusual for me not to want to do it!
I guess if art was my full time job, I would apply the "regular breaks" to that also!

ReplyDeleteOh no Beryl - the break was the week between the Eagle and the Steam train I have started. The DIY in this house is just an ongoing necessity :lol:
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that slows down my creating is the occasional need to do housework. I don't like it but it needs to be done. Its good to get away from creating sometimes because I'm better at focusing when I get back to it, like meeting back up with an old friend. : ) Thanks for commenting on my blog.
