This is a really lovely painting of your dog Pat, the colours and markings are done so well. I like the shading under his chin and the way his right leg wraps around the ball.
I think the horizon should be much higher though, as at this angle, he appears to float, compounded by the shadow high under his rear end.
It came out great! I struggle with the horizon issue too. I'd like to be able to do away with much of the background in my paintings, but it's a difficult idea to embrace. You want to hint at the background but not make it too detailed, I guess. You do that nicely.
She is, Gretchen - so gentle and so fun. She allows all the old folk in the home to stroke and fuss her and is so gentle with them. Yet with her owner, she loves to play ball xx
Nora, she's thrilled to bits! She send me a mail to say I have captured Roxy's spirit and personality - and she is proud to have both the beautiful dog and the beautiful painting! xx
Thank you so much Pat for your lovely comment on my post. I very nearly chickened out of posting it at all! You have captured the character of this chap so well. CUTE!!! :0D
Hello everyone - thanks for all the kind comments about my lovely Roxy. She is a fantastic dog with a wonderful temperament. Always up for a game - loves her balls and footballs - and generally having a great time. She is a very fun dog to own, never a dull moment with her!
She's a rescue dog too, and that makes her all the more special, having come so far in the four and a half years I have owned her. She has achieved to much and I am proud to be her owner. She's a very special girl and I love her to bits.
Having read all the comments on the background to this painting, I can honestly say that I never noticed anything at all "wrong" with it! Personally, all I see is a wonderful painting of a wonderful dog. A painting that has had a lot of care and love put in to it and that really captures the spirit and personality of my dog. I am thrilled with it and wouldn't change a thing. :o)
Wonderful Pat! I would call it...the "Maradona Roxy"! Thanks for sharing this beautiful post. Ciao!

Thanks Tito - glad you like it. Maradona Roxy - or maybe "the hand of Dog"
ReplyDeleteThanks, Frank - but she's not mine. Mine is the white terrier, Missy.
ReplyDeleteRoxy belongs to a lady in Scotland.
I take your point about the horizon, I was toying with the idea of losing it altogether - and if I painted it again, would probably make it all grass.
