In a comfy chair

The end of the financial year has come and gone, which means I am currently working on my tax returns (being self employed) .
Its a chore, but a necessary one.

I have managed to do a bit of online book shopping though - and this is what I've bought!

After completely the last painting, where I learned that feeling was just as important as technique, if not more so.... I searched for a book which would help me learn to express my feelings about what I'm painting - and this one seemed to fit the bill.  So after figures, I'm sitting down to read in the most comfy chair in the house :)
Sometime in the future you may see some abstraction from me :)

Missy, of course, is not impressed by taxes or books.. you can almost hear her thinking "what shall I get up to next?"

  4. Dear Pat,
Oh...I'll wait for your review on the book. Always your challenging spirit lifts me up. And...please pass my best pat to Missy. Missy, taxation gives me a dog's life.
    Cheers, Sadami

  6. Interesting book! Sometimes it is good to look at different approaches and ways of painting. But it can be confusing too.

  7. Ann, taxes are never fun, but necessary to do so I can continue to work in a life which gives me fun !
Missy has a nickname - MissyChief - she does have a mischievous twinkle in her eye :) xx

Thanks, Sadami - a review will come at some point. Maybe one day I will settle on one style which completely grabs me... or maybe I will have a style that encompasses many things! Consider Missy petted :) xx

Sheryl, Missy will enjoy the book when I put it down

Judy, that's so true! But, I do not yet feel I have adopted a style that is completely "me" . So I will continue to learn different techniques and styles until I formulate one of my own :)

  11. I've been thinking a little along those lines. I've tried so hard to be able to paint realistically and am sort of feeling like I'd like to get away from simply reproducing a scene. Still want to do realism.. but more my interpretation of a scene without being a slave to reality. Oh, dear, this all sounds rather rambling!

Teresa, I know exactly what you mean.. I want to try a little more expression and feeling in mine :)

  15. This is an interesting book. Trying out of different techniques is the way to find your own style. Good luck with finding your own style. I'm curious about your results.
Missy is gorgeous. It just needed to draw her.
