Quo Vadis

Here he is, the finished painting:

Quo Vadis

and as I said yesterday, he will be a present to my husband..
because today is our 21st wedding anniversary - and because Paul loves lions!

Why Quo Vadis?

This goes back to my great love of books - the Lion would be Aslan, from The Chronicles of Narnia. As C.S. Lewis himself said, Aslan was what Christ may have been in an imaginary world.

Quo Vadis - the novel, by Sienkiewicz. It tell of the love of a Roman for a Christian and his subsequent conversion - set in the time of Nero as Emporer.

Quo Vadis, The Bible John 13:36 .. Where are you going?

So the three together are how I arrived at this title..

As ever, this painting will be added to my permanent gallery site

  6. Seth and I just started an art lesson book this week called 'Visual Manna-Lessons from Narnia'. Today we are drawing a lion completely from lines. I am not sure if we will get to learn watercolour or not. I have never heard of Quo Vadis...but will read (or gobble up as I like to say) anything I can get my hands on, so I may look that up.

I love the Lion. You can just see him lazing in the sun, then rising up to stare at us as we pass by...

  8. Pat, I am offering both: good wishes for your 21st wedding anniversary and great compliments on this lovely painting. I love the colors! The lion seems ready to move, so Quo Vadis is a really appropriate title.

  10. I absolutely love it! Of all your paintings I have seen, this is my favorite (with the possible exception of my Dawg painting of course).

I love Lewis' imagery of Christ as potrayed through Aslan. He demonstrates how something so fierce and powerful (lion/Christ) can still love us and be as careing as a lamb.

    Soli Deo Gloria!
