and in this stage, you can see that I have added a pale grey wash all over the statue and am going back in - starting with the top feather - to deepen the colours and produce a three dimensional effect.

Ah, this is what I need to learn. The second wash. Are you going to cover the whole leaf with a second wash? or just a portion of the leaf? I'm learning so much from you!
ReplyDeleteThe second wash goes over the whole leaf, though I don't block it all in - but leave some parts of the first wash showing through. Fill the brush with enough wash to do the whole leaf, but leave the equivalent of a letter "i" or "j" unpainted.. it allows some of the under wash to show through :)
