Painting Monty 3

There's a large nose being painted today - the black is a mix of french ultramarine and burnt sienna.

I use a sticky mix of these two colours, because if I need to, some of the colour can be lifted. No staining colours on a dog portrait.

  1. Pat-
Those eyes are awesome! I have a woman in my painting class who starts with the eyes also and she is also really good- maybe that's the trick!

  2. Starting with the eyes gives you a feel for the painting. I honestly think if you get the eyes right, the rest does kind of follow :)
    Give it a go ;)

  3. You're so correct Pat...from being a wildlife artist for more than 20 years I can tell you for sure...if the eyes aren't right, your wasting your time finishing the painting. This guys eyes are right.
