Cara

My husband asked if I would paint a picture for him. He wanted an abstract, galaxy type of painting, with bright colours in it.

This is for you, dearest.

Cara

Unusually for me, it's a full sheet of watercolour paper!

A meditative painting..... and a starry night which needs your help!

Good morning Friends,
I've got two paintings to show you today, both painted in watercolour.
The first is a calm, meditative one.

The Boathouse

I can imagine sitting on the foreground island and getting lost in a reverie.

The second is a starry night abstract, which I really struggled to photograph. It may be my little compact Fuji Finepix isn't up to the job. The electric blue rings are all painted to the same level - blue all the way round. Yet when I photographed them, some turned out white! How that happens, I have no clue. Perhaps you can help me, by giving me some tips on how to photograph a night time painting. Until then, I'll have to let you imagine that all the rings are indeed blue.

The Voyage Home

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions, and your comments on my paintings.

Summer in the City

Yesterday our art club re-started after the Christmas break.
I took in two pieces of paper, knowing that one painting was going to use very wet washes, so whilst it was drying I worked on the second.

This abstract was finished last night, in watercolour and ink, I call it:

Evolution

If you scroll down to "Raw Cider" you will see a set of thumbnails.
This painting used thumbnail number 2 as a basis.
I wanted to try a minimalist style.
This is how the book Realistic Abstracts is encouraging me to think.
Remember, it had no demos... so you have to construct your own paintings.

All of my paintings can be viewed on my website HERE at any time.
If you enjoy browsing, feel free to leave a comment on my Guest Book.

The Gift.

Yesterday I carried on down the abstract route.
I simplified a vase and flowers by making a contour drawing.
That is, an outline drawing of the edges of the flower mass and the edges of the vase. That's all.
Then I studied shadows and colour and simplified them.
This is what I came up with:

In a comfy chair

The end of the financial year has come and gone, which means I am currently working on my tax returns (being self employed) .
Its a chore, but a necessary one.

I have managed to do a bit of online book shopping though - and this is what I've bought!

After completely the last painting, where I learned that feeling was just as important as technique, if not more so.... I searched for a book which would help me learn to express my feelings about what I'm painting - and this one seemed to fit the bill.  So after figures, I'm sitting down to read in the most comfy chair in the house :)
Sometime in the future you may see some abstraction from me :)

Missy, of course, is not impressed by taxes or books.. you can almost hear her thinking "what shall I get up to next?"

First day back

Yesterday was my first day back working after a six week break.

Which meant there wasn't a great deal of time for painting - but I did manage to do a very quick abstract before the first patient of the day arrived!

Here it is - Whiskers.
So named because I can see lots of cats and big cat paws in there .
That's my view - yours may yet be different...

The Journey Home

My friend Beryl came around for a visit yesterday.
Her husband Dennis was helping my Paul to put a new roof on the garage.

So, in between making cups of tea, Beryl and I set to, making an abstract painting each.

This is mine - and I call it "The Journey Home"

Abstract

Sometimes I paint abstract pictures, just for the fun of watching the paint move and flow, granulate and absorb - and dry in whichever pattern it chooses.

Of course, I do have input, I place the colours where I want, I choose to tip the paper so they can flow into each other, and I place either salt or wax on the paper to change or inhibit flow.

Overall though, I won't know if I like what I've done until it dries.
Every one I have done so far, I have liked.
If I look at them deeply, I see many things in them. That's what I like about abstracts.

My title painting is one, using salt as an absorber of paint to help create those lovely patterns.

Here's another :

This one was done as a gift for our local doctor, as a thank you .
I love this one, you can see so much in it .
