Face the Sun

The last few Sundays, I've set aside a little time to do some painting. Not enough time to complete a whole painting, but the last three together have meant I have one finished painting to show you.

Little by little this painting has come together - and it's been really interesting to paint it that way, rather than painting and finishing all in one go.

It struck me that it's almost like life. Build up the achievements, little by little, until you've reached your goal. Then, you set yourself another goal, and little by little, you'll reach that too.
Hopefully, your life will be just like this painting, that if you turn your face to the sun, the darkness will be behind you.

Summer paintings

Hello friends, it's nice to be back after the summer break.
I've only got three paintings to show you from my month off, because I was rather busy with getting my book of short stories out - and then working on my forthcoming novel- All in the Leaves - which should be available for sale at the end of October.

She was a little outside of my comfort zone, but I'm happy with how she turned out. 

Lifeboat

Saunders Waterford 140 Rough

Lifeboat was made using techniques I've come to love, pouring and spraying! 

Brushwork was centred around the lifeboat and a few wave shadows.

Life

Life is.. a bowl of cherries, so I've heard :) 

This one is 11x8 and was the first of my holiday paintings.

From Life or Photo?

Painting from life is full of unexpected things happening, as this sketch of Missy's ear, eyebrow and eye show........


So, if you're not brilliantly quick on the draw, wait until your pet is asleep....


otherwise, use a judiciously taken photo to create your masterpiece


As you can see, I am not an artist who sticks to "life" only. I do use photos where it will give me a better painting than scrabbling around after a favourite dog! But I also draw daily - but usually items that don't move :)
