Dancing with Deb

Morning all,

The photo for this painting came from Deb over at Painting Friends. Mollie kindly gave a stage by stage of her version, with lots of helpful tips. Mollie is the crystal painting Queen!

So I made an attempt - and here it is:

  2. I love your "attempt." What an appetizing drink - and I don't even drink (because of an old head injury). I just love how you do so many different things, Pat. I never know what to expect while waiting to see your site!

  6. If Mollie is the crystal queen, you can now probably call yourself the glass princess:-) This is beautiful.

  12. Thanks, everyone - glad you like it. Crystal is glass, usually with facets. Ann, I don't drink alcohol either - through choice :) xx

  14. Hola Pat, qué acuarela tan atractiva por los brillos y el colorido intenso, sin perder la transparencia, es hermosa.

Hi Pat, so attractive watercolor by intense color and brightness without losing transparency, it is beautiful.

  15. I read the above comments and had to smile that you are the 'glass princess'. You know I don't drink either, but I just want to pluck that cherry right out of the glass!

  16. Glass is one of my most favourite things to paint! Isn't it fascinating to see all of the clours and destortions? :0)

  17. Stunning painting, so vibrant. I would suggest, though that you would see more of the background colour through the glass. I hope you don't mind constructive criticism?

  18. thanks, everyone, so glad you all like it :)

Sharon I never mind constructive criticism. I have the advantage of seeing the photo and knowing the bg colour only came through at the top left of the glass.. its a quandary for me, do I post the photo so you can see what I based the painting on, or would people then think, but a, b and c aren't exactly the same? Because I do use photos only as a basis, not as gospel. With this one for instance, the colours were a trifle more muted, so although every thing is in the same place, I've made the colours more zingy!

Its a quandary and one I always think about.

  19. Hi, Pat, glad you didn't mind. I agree absolutely...it is your painting not mine. And I don't post reference photos either! It is a stunning painting!

  20. No, Sharon, honestly don't mind at all - mostly when people suggest I do consider and on average I change the painting about half the time.
I would honestly prefer if I got people's real thoughts, because then I can weigh them up and change if necessary. I find its the best tool for growth. So please, even though I didn't change this on this occasion, do carry on giving me advice. Thank you xx

  21. Oh, good, wouldn't want to upset you. I too prefer constructive comments, different wiewpoints that make you think. Happy painting!

  22. No Sharon, you wouldn't upset me, I have a thicker skin than that :)
I also worked for many years with so many different people that I realise that art is extremely objective. What one loves another won't, what ones sees as needing a tweak, others won't.
Which is why I listen, think and then do what I feel will enhance my work. But I never get upset - though I have had someone get upset for me once!

  23. Hi Pat, I'm getting a bit behind on my blogging and reading. Oh well, better late than never :) Glass is so difficult to get right but you've done a really convincing painting here! Lots of reflected colour and the refracted image of the straw looks spot on! If you're not drinking it, I'll have it ... lol :)
